Tuesday, Dec 20 - Coffee at the office
I have to be in to the office hella early this morning, so there is no way I am going to be able to make coffee at home. And, we are out of coffee at the office. So, I let the driver in and run over to Stumptown on 3rd. Get myself a large cup to go, and get a half pound of Guatemalan ground for the office's drip machine. Do I find it a little embarrassing ordering coffee ground instead of whole bean? The answer is yes. I am a snob and a purist. You can all judge me now.posted by Hungry T @ 8:36 AM

But Hungry T ... isn't it better to get the beans properly ground by the experts, than mucking it up at home? Small quantities, ground to order ... this is what I do, because my grinder will never acheive the perfection of the Stumptown masters. Half pound of Guatamalan, ground for drip, cone filter.
OK, I confess. I also do this because I am a little bit lazy, and I like to be coddled by conoisseurs.
(Maybe someday I will have a burr grinder with multiple settings. That would raise my confidence.)
I have to say the french press may be a little more forgiving than drip. It's a little coarser, you know. One day, when I make my first million (laughable), I will have a fancy, multi setting burr grinder. This from Stumptown...
"As soon as you grind your coffee, the flavor begins to escape, so keep a grinder on hand if at all possible!"
BTW, Miss Tasty, there is a good primer on French Press method at http://www.stumptowncoffee.com/coffees/brewing.html. Maybe, one day, we can still trade French Press lessons for Chopstick lessons??
You're on.
