Hungry T's Eating Journal

Discontinue?

This may be the last post on Hungry Ts Eating Journal. I'm thinking of hanging this one up. Too much to post, too little time.

I'm going to begin updating my other blog, Tarte aux Poires instead. The occasional outstanding meal, plus, books, movies, music, etc.

Why don't you scoot on over and take a look...

Its been a while

Yes it has. People get busy, you know?

Saturday afternoon... I'm heading to a wedding in a half an hour, and I realize I haven't had lunch. I put together a little omelet from what I have in the fridge...

1-Eggs
2-Hot cappicola
3-Tomatoes
4-Homemade grey salt butter
5-Swiss cheese

And, to drink, Dr. Brown's celery soda. Haven't had this? Well worth a try, I found it at Pastaworks SE...

MARCH MADNESS!!

Sunday AM, watching Bradley and Pitt. I'm rooting for Bradley, as I like the underdog (you should see my bracket...)

Anyway, I'm up a little late, and I'm just catching the 2nd half of the game. I'm eating a leftover hamburger patty with cheese and bacon. And, a cup of tea. Leftovers from the Concordia Ale House, where I ordered up the 'lumberjack' burger. It was HUGE. 2 patties, bacon, cheese, and grilled onions. I ate one half as an open faced sandwich, and took the other half home. Who knew it would serve as such a satisfying breakfast...

Not Catching Up - Just Highlights

Allright... I'm way behind...

Saturday, March 11-

Went to my friend NT's place. He's an old friend I haven't seen in quite a while. We agreed to meet, eat, and drink some French wine. He makes a fantastic salad of chicory greens, eggs, and bacon with a dressing of warm bacon fat and tarragon mustard. Mmmm. Then, he made fresh yam fries, cut and fried right in front of me, with some truffle salt. Mmmm. Then, cornmeal breaded mahi mahi with a side of sauteed broccoli stalk and red pepper. Oh, and the heads of the broccoli on the side. To drink, a 2004 Rully from Folie and a 2002 Mercury (something from Kermit Lynch), can't recall the producer.

Monday, March 13-

Meet with Scoop and Cheesy T at Huber's. None of us had been, despite the fact that it is truly a Portland institution. Word is they are known for two things, turkey and Spanish coffee. I get a pasta salad with turkey (I make the mistake of ordering chicken, which they DON'T EVEN SERVE! That's dedication to turkey). I get a Moscow mule. Scoop gets an Italian coffee after the meal, which was quite tasty.

Wednesday, March 15-

Some new friends and I head to Apizza Scholls. C, F, R, K, and I make 5, the death number for getting a table at a busy restaurant. We wait nearly 45 min for a table (but have drinks while we are waiting). When we are finally seated, we order 2 large Caesar salads, a large salami plate, one Apizza Amore and one Sausage pizza. Fantastic, as always. F, who is Italian, says it is the best pizza he has tasted outside of Italy. I get Caldera Pale Ale to drink, and it comes IN A CAN! Outrageous, but good...

No toast today, CC, but thanks for getting me back on track...

Playing catch-up

Friday AM - Toast and Tea

Friday Lunch - Burritos. Take-out from La Sirenita (thanks to MA for picking up)

Friday PM - ADC and I head to the smoky Horse Brass for fish and chips. I gave up my apprehension towards fish for lent, so this is the first in a series of fish meals I will eat with this particular ADC. Fish (halibut) wasn't bad. The fries were a little soggy, though. Good slaw and some beer...

Sat AM - Tea

Sat Lunch - Roast beef sandwich (the last of last week's lunch meat)

Sat PM - Russian EP (watch http://edibleporn.blogspot.com for details in the near future). A little preview... lots of butter.

Sun AM - Tea

Sun Lunch - Green curry rice.

Sun Dinner - Cooked a full blown meal for me and the ADC. Roasted fingerling potatoes with sour cream, fresh sturgeon roe, and a little drizzle of balsamic. Penne with tomato, basil, cream sauce, bread, and a lime tea cake with fresh, homemade blackberry lime sauce. It was all pretty good.

Thurs, March 2

AM-Tea

Lunch-Roast beef Sandwich with chips

PM-Dinner with G at Nostrana. There is a bit of a wait. I had called for reservations, but they don't take 'em. We are faced with a 45 min wait, so we put our name in and take a walk in SE Portland. It's cool, but comfortable. When we get back, our table is ready. We start with soups. I have duck with barley. Her soup is escaping me right now. I have a greyhound, G has water. We both want the Gnocchi with Rabbit. She orders first, so I get flank steak over arugula, rare. The soups are both outstanding. The main courses leave a bit to be desired. You know the feeling? When it tastes good, but you could probably pull off the same thing better at home? We are both full, and decide not to get dessert. Nostrana, from what I hear, has exceptional pizzas. Maybe next time I'll try one.

The photo is of their legendary wood fired oven. As you walk in, lots of wood piled up. Nice.
